The holidays are not only a time to celebrate with loved one and open gifts; it’s also a time for everyone to appreciate the life they have and give back to those that may be going through a rough time in life, whether it be with a monetary donation or just time out of your schedule. With so many places and ways to volunteer in the Florida area, we wanted to highlight a few:
The Genesis Foundation: You can volunteer your time with the Genesis Foundation where their goals are to support clinical care, life enrichment, and educational programs that care for children with complex genetic disorders. You can volunteer here: http://thegenfound.org/volunteer/
The Everglades Foundation: If you would prefer a monetary donation, you can contribute to the Everglades Foundation where your contribution will support scientists, researchers, policy analysts and communications experts who are leading major initiatives for preserving and restoring America’s Everglades. You can donate here: https://www.evergladesfoundation.org/giving/
The Everglades Foundation has partnered with the Office of Science, Technology and Policy (OSTP) to unveil the new George Barley Science Prize that will award winners of the competition with a prize totaling $11.2 million in cash and prizes over a six year period. Over 300 participants are expected from all over the world and the competition will take place in the summer of 2016.
The competition will incorporate multiple stages and benchmarks, with the first three years of the competition including three stepping-stone prizes. The first two prizes enable entrants to test technologies at lab scale and compare performance under similar operating conditions. The third stepping-stone prize enables entrants to test technologies for three months at pilot scale to demonstrate proof-of-concept that guides full-scale implementation.
Visit the George Barley website for more details and entry information.
Next month the Genesis Foundation for Children will host a memorial service for the late Dr. Murray Feingold where the service will be open to the public and all are welcome to pay their respects.
